Message From President Kelly J. Cooper
I've been privileged to serve as President of Local 175 since May 2004. The past seven years have been extremely busy with four new labor agreements. We are currently negotiating a new agreement with DP&L.
During the process of negotiating a new contract in 2009 with Vectren, we determined it was necessary to launch a campaign to let the company know that we were unsatisfied with the disrespectful attitude of their negotiators toward the Local 175 members. I am extremely proud of the membership of Local 175 - we stepped up and stood together to assist our brothers and sisters. As a result, we were able to negotiate a new contract for the Vectren members.
The Executive Board continues to work on a daily basis to provide the members with the best representation they can offer. I'm proud of the Executive Board - they are an asset to me as President and to you, the membership.
Politically, the Executive Board and Local 175 members have worked tirelessly to get signatures on petitions to repeal SB5 (Issue 2). Issue 2 is unsafe, unfair and hurts Ohio's middle class families. It's not Ohio values to let firefighters, police and teachers lose their rights and see wages and benefits gutted. I believe that if Issue 2 is not repealed, the private sector of organized labor, which includes Local 175, will be next on the agenda of the current Ohio legislators. Please vote no to repeal this attack on the middle class in Ohio.
The biggest asset of any union is its members. YOU are Local 175. Your voice, when united with your union brothers and sisters, is the strength of this organization. When we are united as a union, we can accomplish a lot, proven by the past seven years. We will work together to make the years to come ones of growth and strength for Local 175, Utility Workers Union of America.
